EQUINE-ASSISTED PARENTING PRACTICE LAB

This 4-hour workshop focuses on helping foster and kinship caregivers recognize and manage their own emotional triggers. Using equine-assisted activities, participants will practice tools for staying calm and centered when faced with challenging behaviors or emotionally intense situations; skills they can directly apply to caregiving. The workshop includes a light lunch. There is no riding involved and no previous equine experience is necessary.

This workshop is for caregivers only. No childcare is available onsite. Only participants who have registered may attend the workshop. An additional participant (support person of the caregiver) can register after creating an account using the user type "Guest - Equine Program" here.

As prey animals, horses are a lot like children who have experienced trauma; their survival depends on heightened awareness and knowing who to trust. That’s why working with horses offers a great opportunity for practicing parenting skills that are critical to developing a sense of safety and creating a healthy, healing home environment for children who have survived trauma. Caregivers learn and practice essential skills for managing challenging, trauma-based behaviors. These 4 hour workshops are changing the way caregivers are parenting.
