Intro to Autism is a great way for caregivers and professionals alike to understand autism, learn some of the signs, and develop tools to better communicate with children and youth who may be neurodivergent.
This presentation will cover topics such as:
What autism is
The prevalence
What to consider when looking at symptoms of autism

What we can do as clinicians, individuals, parents, and caregivers to better support individuals in our lives who are diagnosed with ASD.
Jennifer Whalen received her undergraduate degree in Child and Adolescent Family Studies with a minor in Psychology from California State University of Bakersfield. She is now studying at Baylor University for her Masters in Social Work but still calls Southern California “home.” Jennifer has experience working as a behavioral therapist with children who are on the Autism Spectrum and experience working with adolescents in a short-term residential treatment program.
Jennifer is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, and other life stressors. She is passionate about helping families develop positive relationships and using a gentle approach that can provide a safe space for all families. She is LGBTQIA+ affirming and works with individuals from all religions. Jennifer provides skill-building, parental support, and brief individual therapy services to youth ages 12+. Jennifer’s counseling approaches include client-centered, motivational interviewing, CBT, TF-CBT, DBT. She uses a holistic point of view while working with each client.
