Family First is new federal legislation that will go into effect in October 2021. Join us as we welcome Jon Steinmetz and Mary Griffin from Colorado Department of Human Services. We will learn about the "Why" behind this new legislation, how it will affect foster care in Colorado, and your role as the foster parent.

Jon has a strong background in evidence-based family therapy from a systemic and strengths-focused approach (MST - Multisystemic Therapy) and substance abuse treatment for youth (MST-Substance Abuse and MST-Contingency Management). Jon also served as an MST-BSF and MST- CAN Expert for substance abuse treatment for adults. MST-Building Stronger Families and MST-Child Abuse & Neglect models - include Reinforcement-Based Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, Prolonged Exposure Trauma Treatment for Adults, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for children and youth. Jon has a passion for seeing parents and children make healthy, positive choices that improve their lives for themselves and their future families.
Mary Griffin (Moderator)
Program Administrator for Foster Care and Kinship Foster Care

Mary Griffin, MSW, is the Program Administrator for Foster Care and Relative Guardianship Assistance. She has been with the Colorado Department of Human Services in the Division of Child Welfare as the first CHRP Administrator and has been in her current position since 2001. Her favorite part of her work is talking with foster parents, getting their thoughts about what is important to them, and highlighting their great work with kids.
