Childrens Colorado
I am an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics with a dual appointment in general pediatrics and the Kempe Center where I serve as the Founding Medical Director for the new Children’s Hospital Colorado specialty primary care clinic in affiliation with the Kempe Center, the Kids In Care Settings (KICS) clinic. KICS serves children and youth in out of home placement (foster and kinship care).
Prior to coming to Colorado in 2021, I worked at Evanston Regional Hospital in Evanston, Wyoming. There I served as the Medical Director of Pediatrics and Chief of Medical Staff. I currently serve as a Co-Investigator for the Pediatric Integrated Post-trauma Services SAMHSA grant working to disseminate the pediatric traumatic stress care process model and to develop enhanced implementation strategies for trauma screening and treatment referral in rural settings and adaptations for the unique needs of children in foster care. I served on the executive committee for the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Child Abuse and Neglect from 07/2018 - 06/2024. In 2019, I was the recipient of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Child Abuse and Neglect’s award for Outstanding Service to Maltreated Children.
My professional areas of interest are foster care health, health disparities, cross sector collaboration, systems level innovations, infants prenatally substance exposed, and trauma informed care.
My personal hobbies are spending time with my family, reading, camping, skiing, and I love the beach!

Julia Palozzi received her doctorate degree in school and clinical psychology at Roberts Wesleyan University. Currently, she is working as clinical faculty at the University of Colorado. Her passions are supporting foster involved youth, families with trauma histories, and caregivers in feeling confident and competent when caring for their families and children. Over the course of her career, she hopes to have a hand in both intervention and policy that addresses the social determinants of mental health for underserved populations, specifically those involved in with foster care. Outside of dreaming up ways to bring equitable care to families, she loves hiking with her partner and their miniature australian shepherd!
